Celebrity Silhouette ship tour
8am on a rainy Sunday morning in September and we were already on board the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette for a day of filming with Planet Cruise. We started our tour on deck three in the grand foyer, which houses the guests relations desk, the shore Excursions’s desk and the passport bar, as well as the entrance to the lower level of the Grand Cuvee restaurant, the main dining room on board.
From the grand foyer we made our way to the front of the ship via the ocean view staterooms located on this deck. These are great value rooms offering a spacious cabin with full size sofa, large picture window and surprisingly roomy bathroom, which we were delighted to see boasted a large shower with a proper glass door. The rooms are cleverly designed so that every other room is configured with the bed opposing the sofa in the next room, thus offering guests the choice of either having the sofa or the bed nearest to the window.
From here we made our way up to deck 11 to view a concierge balcony room. The balcony rooms are similar in internal size to the ocean view rooms but also boast a large balcony with lovely reclining chairs and footstools, as well as a table perfect for those leisurely sea day balcony breakfasts. From here we made our way to an entry level suite cabin, a sky suite room. This is a wider room with a larger balcony and access to a suite lounge, restaurant and the services of a butler. The next level of suite is the celebrity suite which has a separate lounge area with a gorgeous corner sofa and a cosy bedroom with doors to the bathroom from the bedroom as well as the lounge corridor.
Next up is the royal suite, a wonderfully spacious suite with a large bathroom with separate bath and shower as well as a double sink. One of the main attractions of a suite at this level is the addition of a hot tub and padded lounger on the balcony, a real treat for those sunset sail aways from some exotic island, soaking in a hot tub with a bottle of champagne on ice!
Finally, the piece de resistance is the amazing Penthouse suite. This has to be one of the largest suites at sea, boasting a large living area with access to the wrap around balcony, a separate shower room and toilet (for extra guests staying on the sofa bed), a walk in closet and huge bedroom, also with access to the balcony and hot tub, and the most amazing bathroom we have ever seen, with a large jacuzzi bath, double sinks and the most incredible two person, double headed shower. The only thing we could find fault with in this suite is that you probably wouldn’t want to leave it, and you definitely wouldn’t want your vacation to come to an end!
Following the suite tour we made our way back to deck three to the suite guests restaurant, Luminae. With large glass doors at its entrance, classy cream interior and elegant table settings, it really sets itself apart for suite guests.
Next door to Luminae is the main dining room, Grand Cuvee, set over two levels and accessible from decks three and four. This is a large dining room decorated in beautiful red and gold with some beautiful features such as the wine tower and elegant bubble chandelier. Celebrity ships are well known for offering some of the best cuisine at sea and although this ship has some tempting extra charge speciality restaurants, guests choosing to dine solely in the main dining room would not be disappointed.
As well as the main dining room, the Silhouette has a number of speciality dining venues, mostly located on deck five. The finest of these is Murano, a fine dining style restaurant offering classic French dishes such as chateaubriand and Dover sole, filleted table side. This is an extra cost restaurant but if you are on board celebrating a special occasion then we would heartily recommend treating yourself to a meal here, the service and food is exceptional and worth the extra cost.
At the rear of the ship is another specialty restaurant, Tuscan Grille, which is an Italian themed restaurant offering delicious food such as Filet Mignon, fish dishes and Italian classics like lasagne and tiramisu, all served whilst enjoying a wonderful wake view. The final extra cost specialty restaurant located in this area is Le Petit Chef, a novelty dining experience, using video projection to entertain guests at their seat prior to serving their food.
Opposite Le Petit Chef is Blu restaurant, an exclusive restaurant for guests staying in Aquaclass cabins which are balcony cabins with the added bonus of some in-suite extras such as flavoured teas and special toiletries as well as access to the spa facilities and Persian garden and ‘clean cuisine’ in Blu, which is open seating for breakfast and dinner. As the name suggests, Blu’s decor is accented with blue carpet and accessories on a cream backdrop, with a large centre piece blue and white crystal chandelier.
Outside the speciality restaurants is the Ensemble Lounge, perfect for a pre-dinner drink accompanied by live piano music. For suite guests the private lounge, Michaels club, is also located here.
Moving back through to the middle of the ship on deck five is Cafe al Bacio, the coffee and snack bar. Surrounded by funky seating this is the perfect place to grab a hot drink and a light breakfast, lunch or cake whilst watching the world go by in the main atrium area. And for those ice cream lovers the gelato bar is situated at the other end of the cafe to the barista bar and offers extra cost gelato and crepes.
Opposite the cafe is Sushi on Five, the only a la carte restaurant on board, serving freshly prepared sushi as well as offering a once per voyage curry night.
Just round the corner from the coffee bar is the art gallery, with the little known about World Class bar, boasting knowledgable bar tenders and unusual cocktails. This is a small, intimate bar which attracts less of a crowd than the infamous martini bar but is a must for any discernible cocktail lover. As well as the art gallery which changes its displays regularly during a cruise, there is a wealth of wall art and sculptures throughout the ship for art loving guests to peruse.
At the front of deck five is the upper level of the Silhouette theatre, a large theatre offering a variety of evening entertainment. From the lower level of the theatre guests can access the casino, shops and the entertainment court. At the centre of the ship is the infamous martini bar with its ice bar and flair bartenders entertaining guests with their cocktail making skills and a large menu of exclusive cocktails to enjoy. And for those guests who prefer fine wines, the more classically decorated Cellar Masters bar is opposite.
Making our way up to the outside top decks via the stunning glass fronted elevators which traverse the central atrium from deck three all they way up to the top decks, we were afforded views of the lounge, hideaway, card room and library along the way. Arriving at deck twelve the lifts open adjacent to the outside pool area with the pool and hot tubs flanked by sun beds and sofas with plenty of shade provided by the canopies and deck above.
If the weather is inclement the indoor solarium pool provides a chance to laze by the pool whatever the weather. Located in one corner of the solarium is the aqua spa cafe, a little snack and smoothie bar offering healthy little plates of breakfast or lunch food and freshly made smoothies (at extra cost unless on the premium drinks package).
At the front of deck twelve is the canyon ranch spa with the salon at the entrance and the Persian garden hot stone beds off to one side. Along the other side is the entrance to the expansive and roomy gym, equipped with plenty of machines and well spaced out gym equipment. Located at the spa reception is a spiral staircase leading down to the relaxation room, for use of spa guests and passengers staying in aquaclass cabins, with comfy padded loungers and a beautiful view over the bridge out the front of the ship, perfect for a relaxing sail out.
Don’t despair if you aren’t staying in an aquaclass cabin, the Sky observation lounge located at the front of deck fourteen has panoramic extra height windows offering lofty views from the front of the ship. The sky lounge is nicely divided up with a variety of different types of seating areas varying from sofas to day beds, bar stools and large circular tables for larger groups. During the day the lounge is perfect for relaxing with a good book and sea views or joining in with daytime quizzes, trivia and activities. In the evening the lively bar comes to life with live performances and shows from the ships entertainers and the chance to dance the night away.
Moving from the sky lounge to the outside jogging track and sun deck wrapping round the outside pool area, takes you past the Mast bar and Mast grill, serving traditional grilled fayre such as burgers, hot dogs and fries. Back inside towards the rear of deck fourteen is the fabulous ocean view cafe, the buffet restaurant. This is a large open area with numerous serving stations offering a wide variety and styles of foods to meet everyone’s needs. There are self service drinks stations and a bar with plenty of seating along the sides. For those that prefer there is a large al fresco seating area at the rear of the ocean view cafe with its own bar and a gorgeous wake view.
From this area you can climb the external stairs up to the sunset bar and the lawn club, including the lawn grill, an extra charge restaurant where guests can choose their food and assist the chefs in cooking it on the open grills. On the lawn itself are the cabana style alcoves for guests to hire for a day of intimate indulgence. Leaving the lawn club via the central elevators takes you passed the extra charge, o reservation, seafood and salad bar, the Porch.
Thus we finished our tour on the top deck after an exhausting but enticing day immersed in this beautiful ship. Thank you to Planet Cruise and Celebrity Cruises for inviting us on board and for being so accommodating.
