Regent Seven Seas Dining Guide

When it comes to luxury, few do it better than Regent Seven Seas and as their newest ship to the fleet, Regent Splendor is the epitome of indulgence, including exceptional dining experiences. From casual dining at the Pool Grill to exquisite speciality dining, all dining is included in your fare. During our week long cruise on the Splendor we made sure to dine in every venue to bring you our honest opinion of every meal we ate. Though this dining guide is based upon our experience on the Splendor, all of Regent Seven Seas ships offer the same venues, except for Pacific Rim which is only available on the Explorer class of ship.

Compass Rose:

Compass Rose provides guests with the flexibility of open seating, allowing them to dine at their convenience between 6.30pm and 9.30pm. This elegant restaurant serves as the ship's main dining venue, offering a sophisticated and contemporary ambiance with eye-catching chandeliers and exquisitely decorated tables complete with Versace chargers, rose vases and tableware.

Compass Rose features a diverse menu of international cuisine, including appetisers, soups, salads, and main courses prepared to order. This is honestly the most extensive menu we have ever seen on a ship, with a changing ‘chefs daily special’ offering five appetisers and entrees as well as pasta dishes, a ‘wellness’ selection, and an ’always available’ menu which includes a wide range of appetisers, soups and salads followed by an array of cooked to order meat and fish dishes accompanied by a range of sides.

We couldn’t resist trying a couple of their staple menu items and were happy to find that the Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection as requested and the Dover Sole was deftly filleted at the table by our very able waiter, Perdu. As if that wasn’t enough choice, every evening there is the chance to order a menu degustation offering five courses and a palate cleaning sorbet, which is offered to all guests between their appetiser and entree dishes.

Compass Rose is also open for breakfast every morning offering a huge range of breakfast dishes including our favourite avocado on toast, always available eggs Benedict, eggs cooked to order and even a large breakfast steak. For a bit of extra refinement, on Sunday mornings there is a caviar and mimosa breakfast served in both the Compass Rose and La Veranda.

Pacific Rim:

Inspired by the culinary traditions of Asia, Pacific Rim showcases a fusion of flavours from across the continent. This speciality restaurant is only available on the Explorer class of ship and is located at the aft of deck 5. It’s dramatic entrance is adorned with a large art installation of a bronze mythical dragon leading through to a stylish and modern setting with intricate architectural details and wood carvings.

The menu features a diverse array of dishes influenced by Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisines, including specialties like sushi, dim sum, wok-fried dishes, and more. Inside the restaurant is dimly lit with intricate details and lotus-shaped windows with tables adorned with special Pacific Rim charger plates. This speciality restaurant is open every evening from 6-9pm and is included in your fare but does require advance reservation as it is very popular, with one reservation per voyage guaranteed for all guests. The menu includes a range of dishes from across Asia with starters varying from sushi and sashimi to spring and summer rolls, dim sum, tempura and Thai and miso soups. The entrees included dishes like laksa, pad Thai, massamam and red curries, tempura, aromatic duck and pork ribs.

We started our evening in Pacific Rim with a welcome cocktail of vodka and ginger while we perused the menu. With so many delicious options we struggled to choose, so after our amuse bouche of edamame beans served with a sesame crisp and satay dip, we decided to share a range of starters between us. We chose the sashimi, duck spring rolls, beef tatami rolls and the chicken gyoza, all of which were delicious. We then shared the lobster tempura on the recommendation of our wonderful waitress Kateryna, as well as having the massaman curry and beef tenderloin with Asian greens and rice. I’m not sure how we managed a desert but we ordered the chocolate indulgence and coconut tres leches, asking to have the macaron and truffle petit fours sent to our suite for later as neither of us had room for them. Pacific Rim turned out to be our favourite restaurant on board the Regent Splendor, indeed we would rank it as amongst one of the best on any ship we have sailed on. We loved every dish we tried but if we were to go back we would probably order a little differently, having more of the starters to share and then simply sharing the lobster tempura which was the highlight dish and simply divine.

Prime 7:

As the ship's signature steakhouse, Prime 7 offers a classic, sophisticated and intimate dining experience, with the handsomely adorned restaurant showcasing glass, metal and marble luxury decor, as well as some incredible artwork. Offering classic American refined steakhouse fare with premium cuts of beef, including tender filets, succulent rib eyes, and juicy New York strip steaks, as well as other grilled meats, delectable seafood options, and a selection of gourmet appetisers and desserts. From perfectly aged prime New York strip, porterhouse and succulent filet mignon to smoked salmon with a phenomenal tamarind-whiskey sauce, Prime 7 elevates classic American steakhouse staples to lofty heights. Located at the aft of the ship on deck 10 the restaurant offers amazing sunset wake views for guests to enjoy whilst dining. Open from 6-9pm every evening this speciality restaurant is included in your fare but does require advance reservation with one reservation per voyage guaranteed for all guests.

Starting with a delicious bread basket we then opted for two classic appetisers, the onion soup and the caesar salad which we were pleased to see was served with anchovies. For entrees we chose the signature surf and turf and the prime beef strip loin from the small plates menu, though don’t be fooled by this, it is a perfectly proportioned and adequately size dish. Though both pretty full we couldn’t resist sharing a caramel popcorn sundae and only regretted not having the space to try some of the other delicious sounding desserts on the menu.

Prime 7 also opens for lunch alternate days from noon to 1.30pm offering guests a menu hailing from the Americas with some traditional American fare as well as some Mexican, Cuban and Peruvian specialities. A rather more refined lunch than the other informal choices, this venue offers a waiter served lunch with lovely views from the deck 10 aft located restaurant. We chose to start by sharing the Beef Empanada and the Chicken Quesadilla before moving on to the Pulled Pork Sliders and Scallops. Though neither of us could manage a dessert there were some very tempting offerings including pecan pie, red velvet cheesecake and the caramel brownie.

Chartreuse:

Chartreuse brings the flavours of France to the Seven Seas Splendor. This chic restaurant offers a stylish and intimate setting, reminiscent of a Parisian fine dining establishment with a menu highlighting classic French dishes prepared with contemporary flair, including delicacies such as Escargot, Foie Gras, Bouillabaisse, and a range of delectable desserts. Also located at the aft of the ship on deck 10 the restaurant offers amazing sunset wake views for guests to enjoy whilst dining. Open from 6-9pm every evening this speciality restaurant is included in your fare but does require advance reservation with one reservation per voyage guaranteed for all guests. The tables are beautifully adorned with stunning charger plates and crockery as well as delicate wine glasses.

We arrived for our reservation and after a warm welcome were shown to a table right at the aft of the restaurant with marvellous raked floor to ceiling windows which make the most the wake view. Starting our meal with the beef tartare and the goats cheese soufflé, these were companied by French baguette slices and whipped butter and a delicious glass of cold Muscadet, one of our favourite white wines. For entrees we chose the Baked Lobster Tail and the Chicken Supreme, both of which were richly decadent and delicious and accompanied by a smooth red Bordeaux wine. To finish our meal we had the Chocolate Opera cake and the Cheese plate before being presented with a cute little Chartreuse box containing a couple of lovely madeleines. We adore both fine dining and French cuisine, and Chartreuse delivered on this remit in bucket loads.

Chartreuse also opens for lunch alternate days from noon to 1.30pm with a French themed menu. The starters include dishes like Nicoise Salad, Poached Halibut, Duck Terrine and Chefs Onion Soup, followed by Shellfish Pasta, Grilled Octopus, Roasted Chicken and a firm favourite of ours, Croque Monsieur. We chose the Halibut and Goats Cheese starters followed by a classic Croque Monsieur and Breaded Cod main courses, finishing off with a Banana Mousse and a couple of scopes of ice cream. Lunch in Chartreuse is a very nice way to spend a couple of hours in the middle of the day with lovely lofty views in this inviting, refined venue with excellent service and delicious cuisine.

La Veranda:

This buffet style restaurant has to have one of the most incredible outside terraces we’ve ever seen with beautiful cabanas and alfresco tables overlooking the aft of the ship. Inside the tables are beautifully adorned to give a refined and elegant feel to this casual dining venue which makes the most of the floor to ceiling ocean views. The buffet is laid out well with help yourself and made to order meals, simply place your order, tell the server your table number and then wait for it to be brought over to you. Though this might be the buffet restaurant, the service is still excellent with fine wines and drinks refilled frequently - our server even noticed Rich had no cutlery to eat his dessert fruits and swiftly and discreetly bought him a knife and fork without us asking. This venue opens for breakfast every day from around 7.30am to 10am and occasionally offers themed events, such at Saturday Marys when a variety of bloody Marys are served, and Sunday caviar breakfasts. At lunchtime it opens from around 11.30am to 2-3pm before transforming into the ever popular open seating Sette Mari venue in the evening (more on that below).

Sette Mari at La Veranda

During the evening, La Veranda transforms into Sette Mari, an Italian restaurant with a casual yet elegant atmosphere. With a menu inspired by the regions of Italy, including antipasti, pasta dishes, seafood, and traditional desserts Sette Mari delivers the flavours of Italy while enjoying panoramic ocean views. Open every evening from 6-9pm with open seating, guests are advised to arrive either as it opens at 6pm or around 8pm for the ‘second’ seating as most tables are taken shortly after opening. We managed to get a table here on two occasions, starting our meal with the delicious nibbles that are brought out with the bread basket to graze on while perusing the menu. We tried a range of the pasta dishes and loved them all, particularly the pesto gnocchi. For entrees we would highly recommend the signature Ossubuco Milanese and the delicious gorgonzola beef tenderloin. To accompany the made to order meals guests also have the option to visit the self-service areas and help themselves to a range of salads and desserts, which can also be ordered through your server.

Pool Grill:

The Pool Grill offers al-fresco dining around the ship’s luxurious pool with expansive views out of the floor to ceiling deck 11 windows.  With a large buffet selection as well as made to order grilled items from the menu the Pool Grill offers a range of salads, sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, hot dogs and grilled fish dishes as well as a section traditional desserts, homemade ice creams and milkshakes. Open from 11am until 4pm this is the perfect venue for a poolside lunch, mid day snack or late lunch for guests who have been ashore all day. The Pool Grill is also open in the morning for a casual, healthy breakfast from 6.30-9.30am every day.

Coffee Connection:

Coffee Connection is a relaxed, comfortable lounge area complete with a small self-service drink and snack station, alongside a barista-manned coffee bar. It’s the perfect spot for a quick snack or a relaxing breakfast or lunch, offering a selection of freshly brewed coffees, iced coffees, specialty teas, pastries, sandwiches, and other light bites. The lounge itself is a bustling little area located just behind atrium on deck 5 with seating alongside the coffee bar as well as a lovely outside seating area on the promenade deck. The central coffee station is manned by a skilled barista from 6.30am until 6pm with self-serve tea, coffee, hot chocolate and water available 24 hours a day.

From 6.30am until 11am the food station has an array of pastries, fruit, yogurts and parfaits together with bread, rolls and bagels. We loved the six slice Dualit toaster, a nice change to the usual rotisserie style toasters usually available.  From 11am until close the fruit and breads remain but are accompanied by cold meats, cream cheese, cookies, tarts, and dessert cups.

In-suite Dining:

With an extensive 24 hour in-suite dining menu, as well as the option to dine course by course from the Compass Rose menu, guests can relax in the privacy of their luxurious suite whilst savouring a delicious meal chosen from a range of appetisers, main course and desserts.

For the higher grade suites there is also a canapé menu from which to chose a pre-dinner plate of canapés delivered to your suite at around 5pm every day. We decided to leave it to our butler Richard to surprise us every day, enjoying exquisite plates of hot and cold delights including king prawns, a mezze platter, a charcuterie selection and spring rolls.

Although we didn’t get the chance to have dinner in our suite we did enjoy a breakfast on a couple of occasions, placing our breakfast order out on our door handle the evening before. Richard, our butler arrived at the requested time and laid breakfast out on our large dining table delivering it exactly as requested, arranging a time of our choice when he would come and clear it all away again. Although the breakfast menu is not as comprehensive as the one in the main dining room Rich was delighted that he was still able to order his breakfast steak and omelette.

Afternoon tea:

Afternoon tea was served every day in the Meridian Lounge on deck 5. The tables are decadently laid out with tea served in silver teapots (though disappointingly the tea wasn’t loose leaf but in teabags) and sandwiches and cakes brought around on a trolley for guests to make their selections. Also on offer are warm scones served with whipped cream (not clotted cream unfortunately) and strawberry jam. Afternoon tea is always accompanied by live music from one of the talented onboard musicians and is a delightful way to pass an hour in the afternoon.
